Sooner or later, The Purge: Election Year is only what moviegoers would expect a third Purge movie to be. It provides serviceable horrors and thrills while trying to blend multiple music genres, but ultimately comes short of those aspirations. Critic Consensus: It isn't particularly subtle, but The Purge: Election Year's combination of powerful jolts and timely themes still add up to a nastily successful diversion. All things considered, a non-stop violence fest (not quite a grind house picture, but close); I work at the movie theater part time, and definitely the most violent thing we have had for a long. That is an enough B movie enjoyment in this film from being a complete failure to prevent it.

Anarchy, the second episode, took the audience out into the nightmare of the urban roads on Purge Night, interweaving multiple plot lines and, above all, a team of protagonists of different socioeconomic backgrounds who'd very different reasons. Joe's relationship with Marcos (Joseph Julian Soria) provides Election Year with a more powerful emotional part than previous Purge entries; their dynamic gives the movie some heart and weight, enabling crowds to become invested in what is happening. Director James DeMonaco returns with the third instalment in the franchise, following The Purge (2013) and The Purge: Anarchy (2014) and Frank Grillo returns to reprise his role as Sergeant.
